Discover Snowmass
Mountain living starts at 8,000+ feet.
Welcome to Snowmass
An entirely different Rocky Mountain experience.
Just a short drive from Aspen, Snowmass is a place where the mountain isn’t simply something you visit. It’s where you stay, ski, hike, dine and play.
That means elevation is part of everyday life here. A little preparation can help you settle in, feel more comfortable and enjoy more of every mountain day.
From the village to the summit
A day here can climb nearly 4,000 feet.
Snowmass has one of the most dramatic elevation ranges among the area’s mountain resorts. You can wake up above 8,000 feet, spend part of the day approaching 12,500 feet and return to the village before evening.
That vertical range is part of the adventure—and a reason to pay attention to how your body responds as you travel higher.
The air still contains oxygen. Lower atmospheric pressure means less oxygen is available with each breath.
Snowmass by the numbers
The mountain rises fast.
From the first lift to the summit, elevation shapes the entire Snowmass experience.

Hydrate regularly throughout the day, especially as you travel and before activity.
Start more slowly
Take strenuous activity at an easier pace during your first couple of days.
Limit alcohol initially
Give your body the best opportunity to rest and adjust after you arrive.
Pay attention
Notice how you feel as you move higher on the mountain and respond accordingly.
A mountain built for adventure
There is more to enjoy when you understand the elevation.
Snowmass is known for expansive ski terrain, family-friendly experiences, hiking, biking, festivals and a resort environment where almost everything revolves around the mountain.
That’s exactly what makes it special. Understanding the elevation before you arrive can help you enjoy more of what you came here to experience.
